Seasons Change, but God Remains the Same

Malachi 3:6 (ESV) says, “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” One of the most beautiful aspects of autumn is watching the world around us change. Leaves that were once green become brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold. The warm days of summer give way to cooler temperatures, and before long, the colorful leaves fall to the ground. Another season passes, reminding us that change is an unavoidable part of life. But while the seasons change, our God remains the same. Everything in this world is subject to change. Our circumstances change. Our health changes. Our relationships change. Even our hopes and dreams may change as we journey through life. Sometimes those changes bring happiness and excitement. Other times, they bring uncertainty, disappointment, and sorrow. Yet amid all these changes, we have a wonderful assurance: God never changes. The writer of Hebrews declares, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8, ESV). Think about what that means for us. The Savior Who loved sinners enough to die upon the Cross still loves us today. The Lord Who comforted the brokenhearted still offers comfort. The God Who faithfully kept His promises throughout Scripture remains faithful to every promise He has made. His character does not change with the circumstances of our lives. Sometimes we measure God's goodness by what is happening around us. When life is pleasant, we easily recognize His blessings. But when difficulties arise, we may begin questioning whether He still cares. However, God's faithfulness is not determined by the season we are experiencing.
The Prophet Isaiah reminds us, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8, ESV). What a comforting truth! The beauty of autumn eventually fades, but God's Word never loses its power. His promises never expire. His love never grows cold. As we grow older, we become increasingly aware of how quickly life's seasons pass. Children grow up, familiar faces disappear, and opportunities that once seemed endless become precious. That reality should encourage us to treasure each day and place our confidence in what is eternal rather than temporary.
So when you see the leaves changing this autumn, remember the unchanging faithfulness of your heavenly Father. Whatever season of life you are experiencing, He remains worthy of your trust, obedience, and praise.
The seasons will continue changing, but the God Who walks with us through every season will never change. And because He remains the same, we can face tomorrow with confidence, knowing His faithful love will endure forever.
